AppleDesign

A MAC CLASSIC! THE 1997 FIRST
EDITION OF APPLEDESIGN. THE
COOLEST COMPUTER BOOK OF
THE EIGHTIES AND NINETIES.

Forget Fifty Shades of Grey . This is AppleDesign: easily the sexiest book on sale anywhere in the world this week. In fact 'Fifty Shades of Grey' would have been a great title for this visual history of Apple, published in 1997. It is a design classic in its own right. Turn yourself on here.

The desk defying Apple Lisa and the Apple Lisa II. This computer weighed in at 25 kilos. It was the heavyweight computer of the world in 1985 before being KO'd by the Windows based personal computer competition.

The pre iPhone and pre iPod years. In Britain, Microsoft (and Margaret Thatcher) were very much in power: Apple users were firmly in opposition. Then Steve Jobs returned to the company the year after this book was published and ruined it all!

Silicon Valley in 1990 and there is no better way to accessorize a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt and Gap jeans than with a Mac Powerbook 100. In one of Apple's darker shades of grey, it had the computing power of a Casio Calculator Watch and (probably) cost about $20,000!

From a page of prototypes - a portable telephone concept designed in 1983. Surely this is what Steve Wonder was thinking of in 1984 when he wrote 'I Just Called To Say I Love This Apple Phone/Watch I Got!'

Look how it might have been. The Mac as inspired by Ettore Sottsass. In fact designed by Hartmut Esslinger of Frogdesign in 1983. Tangerine, pink and powder blue! Yes please. We'll take a couple of Macbook Airs in those colours!
