Jill

MAINTENANT, C'EST CE QUE J'APPELLE LA MODE! JILL MAGAZINE. THE COMPLETE RUN FROM ONE TO TWELVE
OF BABETH DJIAN'S SEMINALLY ICONICALLY PARISIANALLY AMAZINE. NO OTHER FASHION MAGAZINE EVER HAD SUCH A DISTINCT STYLE OF ITS OWN. TOTALLY UNIQUELY JILL MAGAZINE.

How great is that cover! That's the first issue too! From June 1983.
JILL was the magazine of ultimate eighties Paris super-stylist Elisabeth 'Babeth' Djian.

It is so Parisian.

Like a local law had been passed that all fashion shoots must be photographed on the rooftops (and include Alaïa).

And it must have recently rained (and include Jean Paul Gaultier).

Smoking on the cover. And, by the way, another example of how great these covers are. They are magically cinematically cool - the fashion magazine equivalent of watching
Subway, Diva and Betty Blue all in one go - twice.

Not that Jill was exclusively French. Six pages of Body Map in 1984's issue no.7.

Comme and Yohji were embraced by Paris. This classic Paolo Roversi image from back when Comme still ran ads with models and clothes.

In love with the Egyptian page credits (top left) and this scarcely seen Peter Lindbergh shoot.

Modern romantic. Don't get enough Mahler in modern magazines.

Next stop - finding that wet t-shirt.

We have a complete run of Jill magazine. A completely perfect start to finish fashion moment encapsulated by these twelve issues. Historic. And yet. Better than anything ever after.
