LE PALACE AU BOUT DE LA NUIT. KENZO IN THE SPRING SUNSHINE.
This special Paris mail marks the re-launch of the Kenzo store on Rue de Rennes with an IDEA Books section! And what better book to open with than Le Palace: Au Bout De La Nuit. Published in 1979, it is as scarce as it is brilliant. We have one copy for Kenzo and another one on its way to Bookmarc New York.
Some of the images of bejewelled masks and near naked leatherwear are reminiscent of Studio 54. But Le Palace had a punk/new wave angle that takes more from The Roxy or the 100 Club.
There are sixty pages of black and white photographs by Dominique Lauga. There can not be a better set of club pictures. It is just awesome as you can see here. The relative obscurity of the photographer, the club and many of the clientelle make it even more remarkable. It's the book we have seen this year!
