Teenage Smokers

ED TEMPLETON'S TEENAGE SMOKERS LOOK SO ACHINGLY, HEARTBREAKINGLY COOL. BECAUSE THEY ARE, AND ALWAYS WERE, KOOL.

We don't know if you are old enough to remember when everyone smoked. It seems so long ago. Now cigarettes have become the preserve of the very young and the very old. Something to fondly remember and something to look forward to (who isn't gonna start again at seventy?) A pack of ten menthols, please!

A well placed cigarette can make a picture. Check out Instagram's @davidbowiesmoking. While you are there, stop a minute to follow @ideabookslondon. It's the future.

We have a couple of copies of the first limited edition of 2000 signed by the photographer. It sold out a long time ago and gets more and more desirable year on year. Buy it now.
Ed Templeton's 1999 Teenage Smokers photobook reminds us of what we are missing so badly - a genune respect for what is cool. This girl looks like Victoria Beckham but less stressed. The book has an easy air of what is right and proper and simply achieved by lighting up. See pretty much all of it here. Excellence!

We would swap this double page for anything. It has the look and feel of SX70 Polaroids and a charm all of its own. Templeton got it so right with this book. It is actually perfect.

Teenage Kissers was published in 2011.  Same format and same formula and... just as great! An edition of 1000 with a signed poster, it sold out faster than Margiela at H&M (almost).
