THE TITLE (OBVIOUSLY) BUT

WE GOT A LOT MORE THAN JUST BEING TOLD WHERE TO GO. IT IS A TERRIFYINGLY

GOOD REFERENCE TO

CHINESE ART CIRCA 2000. 

The Chinese characters don't actually say FUCK OFF. They say something more akin to UNCOOPERATIVE APPROACH or, as a Chinese customer suggested, WE DON'T PLAY BALL. The attitude is equal.

We also enlisted the help of three Chinese hat buying customers to try and translate the lady's handwritten brassiere. They came up with... "If your [something] is so big, call this number." There was a lot of giggling. All three of the new IDEA hat owners were born after this exhibition was staged and the book was published. 

Fish and chips. This Jin Lee work is just one of A LOT of animalorphic (made that word up) art in the book. This is by far the least creepy / borderline / actually repulsive. The book is big on body horror and not limited to humans.

This is not at all horrific (hence showing it). Lin Yilin's portrait. Texts inside the book are in Chinese and English translation. His artist statement includes the line: "Hard work is more effective than thought." A very Warhol thing to say and very possibly true. And his work looks fun.

Less fun for Yang Zhichao. His theme is art that hurts. This Margiela style branding being one of the least painful things he has done to himself in the name and number of art.

Ai Weiwei in Washington and Beijing. The middle finger theme has never left his work. He released an app in 2023 that allows you to put his finger in front of any building you like. Some of the results of that project can be seen here.
