CLASSICAL GRAFFITI. 1984

THIS HISTORIC CATALOGUE WAS RELEASED IN THESE

DAY-GLO SCREENPRINTED COVERS. NOW ALL YOU

NEED IS A MUSEUM

(UPSCALE BEDROOM) TO HOUSE IT IN AND YOU HAVE YOURSELF A SEMINAL START TO A WORLD CLASS HIP HOP ART COLLECTION.

Classical American Graffiti Writers And High Graffiti Artists. We do like a long title and the more unnecessary the better! This one, though, perfectly counterpointing the eye-popping graphics on the cover.

Oh my DAZE. We also completely adore the colours of these eighties freehand spray can murals.

The book itself is a formal exercise in elegance as befitting its seriously lengthy title. Each artist has their biography (German text - this was one of the earliest surveys of American graffiti in Europe) and a colour illustration opposite a vectorised version of their writers' tag.

Even the black and white illustrations deliver a real energy and artistry.

Lady Pink is the only female artist in the selection which also features; A-One, Bear, John Crash Matos, Chris Daze Ellis, Dondi White, Futura 2000, Kool Koor (called Chuck in the catalog), Lee Quiñones, Noc 167, Quik, Rammellzee, Seen, Toxic and Zephyr. Like, WOW!

Lee Quinones who really can paint with a spray can.

Just love these colours on mute. A-One this is. Deadly Heads is the title.

And this is the full fold out cover art. Which is why, in part, YOU NEED IT! One precious copy on the pink button below. Let's go!
