BLACK AND WHITE. DATED.
A SELF-PUBLISHED EDO BERTOGLIO BOOK OF ALL
THE KEY PLAYERS IN THE DOWNTOWN ART SCENE.
THE BOOK IS DATED TOO:
NYC 1976-1990. AND SIGNED AND INSCRIBED AND, JUST
AS AN IDEA SUPERBOOK BONUS, TOTALLY AND
UTTERLY UNFINDABLE.

Somehow - no one has this book. Not major institutions, not the internet. It is in one library in Lugano. We have one copy today but, very likely, not tomorrow. This is the scarcity of Dated: very!

And it is really, really good! Edo Bertoglio took himself to New York (with his girlfriend, Maripol) in 1976 and began photographing the artists, musicians and club kids of the Downtown art scene. It is Bertoglio who directed the Downtown 81 film with Basquiat. This portrait of JMB with Esther Balint (musician and actress who was in Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise) was also shot in 1981. Esther looks Miu Miu 2025 (in our opinion).

This is Glenn O'Brien from around his TV Party cable television days. O'Brien wrote the introduction for the book...

It's typically brilliant writing: "I remember thinking if I'm ever going to make any money I'm going to have to start getting up before the banks close." (Not Just) Knee Deep is actually 15 minutes long but it's hard not to hit repeat.

Captioned: Bust on Broadway and Bleecker, 1979. It's a terrific photo. The book is a photo-documentary of the New York we know now from Cruising, Times Square, Taxi Driver, Smithereens, Desperately Seeking Susan, After Hours... all those great movies.

Deep dive with Lady Lisa Lyon.

Edwige. Sandwiched. Between two fantastic lamps.

Edo's cat (probably),
Atom, 1979.
As stated, this book just does not exist (save from this one copy now). It is signed by Edo Bertoglio and dated 2001. It's inscribed to someone you know and like... but that info is saved for the button below - where it can be bought (by you) - after which it will be returned to its previous unfindable status :)
