Inoue Tsuguya Graphic Works 1981-2007

TAKE THE VERY BEST ART DIRECTOR IN THE HISTORY

OF THE WORLD, WORKING

FOR COMME DES GARÇONS

NO LESS AND PUT HIS

OUTPUT IN ONE BOOK AND WHAT DO YOU GET? INOUE TSUGUYA GRAPHIC WORKS 1981-2007. THERE IS ONLY

ONE ART DIRECTION BOOK THAT IS THIS GOOD. AND IT IS THIS ONE.

After that introduction, you'd be disappointed if the book didn't have a world class cover. Well, thankfully, it does :)

Famous enough imagery? Inoue Tsuguya you will probably know from a whole career of creating Comme des Garçons visuals. He pretty much is CdG as it is exists in print. There are twenty-six years of the highest class work in this one book.

It's not all Comme. This 1985 ad shot by Yuya Uchida for the Japanese department store and cultural behemoth Parco is a perfect early illustration of Tsuguya's unlikely aesthetic. It is surrealism as such, more just an improbability that he executes.

Earliest work for Comme des Garçons playing on the juxtaposition of light and weight with these two André Kertész photographs. This was 1987.

In 1993 - two books - both wonderful. The Peter Beard Diary we have a copy of now. It's wild style brilliant. Find that book
here

And, of course, Tsuguya art directed Six magazine. All eight issues of the iconic amazine. There is a full run on the store now -
right here

This favourite of favourite Tsuguya / Comme images was photographed by Philip Green, appeared in 1989 and is included in the CdG brand book that we, again, have right here
on the store. We have a lot of Comme and a lot of Tsuguya!

And a cat in a wig pic to finish! Not such much surreal but very definitely improbable.

We have had this amazing Inoue Tsuguya book before but it sells so fast we never had the chance to write about it. Today we are lightning fast! There is one copy on the blue button below. Let's go!
