JOY DIVISION LUMIERE ET TENEBRES. THE FIRST
EDITION OF JUST 500
COPIES. THE RAREST OF THE RARE JOY DIVISION BOOKS WITH THE COVER THAT IS SO GOOD WE CAN BARELY DESCRIBE IT. AND FORTUNATELY WE DON'T
HAVE TO BECAUSE YOU ARE LOOKING AT IT NOW.

Ian Curtis photographed by Pierre René-Worms, holding onto that rail like it is his cross to bear. What a great cover this is. What accidental iconography is conjured by the twelve o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock dots above the i's. This is the 1992 first edition of the French Joy Division superbook
Lumière et Ténèbres (Light and Darkness). Designed on a Mac Quadra with QuarkXPress (it says in the back). Only 500 were printed. Which is why you never ever see it.

The photographs inside are from the band's now legendary appearance at the equally iconic Paris club Les Bains Douches. You can hear that performance on this link. Check out the synth in
Love Will Tear Us Apart!

Aside from the photographs, this is a book you can read. It is a book that someone has read before, and annotated a little. Kind of adds to the experience.

Back cover lover. The best photo of Bernard Sumner we have ever seen. Not least for the short sleeve and tie combo. That is so a good look. On the back of a great book.
