Prince presents The Sacrifice of Victor

PRINCE PRESENTS THE

FINEST PHOTOBOOK OF AN ARTIST AT WORK THAT WE

HAVE SEEN. BACH, MOZART, BEETHOVEN ALL CAME (AND WENT) BEFORE THE ADVENT

OF PHOTOGRAPHY. CHOPIN

HAD HIS PICTURE TAKEN. PRINCE WAS PERFECTLY POSITIONED IN THE PURPLE PERIOD BEFORE IPHONES SHOWED EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE. THIS BOOK IS

PURE TALENT PERSONIFIED.

Long intro so let's move it along. That Chopin photo (actually a daguerreotype) is here. 1848 that was. This book 1994: The Sacrifice of Victor

The Sacrifice of Victor was photographed by Terry Gydesen. Terry was not a rock and roll (or a funk-pop-soul photographer), she was then and is now an artist documenting Minnesota's social, political, economic life. Her 1998 documentation of Jesse Jackson political campaign may have brought her to Prince's attention. However, it happened, it was a remarkable choice. She took amazing pictures both on stage (above) and off (below).

First of our favourite Prince pictures. His smile is as wide as the gap between him and his pursuers. It doesn't look like he is too worried about being caught.

Second favourite Prince photograph; watching himself on the TV.

This one is fab too. More than half the book documents the after party gigs that Prince was in the habit of playing throughout his career. Atop the piano in the key light - this might have been Chopin (or more likely Liszt) some 150 years previously.

The sacrifice of the artist. Photographed at the end of a three hour after-show jam.

The book itself has been sought after for twenty or so years now and chased around the internet with avid interest from Prince fans. Well, everyone's a Prince fan. And everyone on this newsletter is a Prince fan (right?). And there are two copies of the book on the button below. So buy them now!
