RÉGINE ZYLBERBERG! THE BELGIAN BORN TORCH

SINGER, DISCO INNOVATOR

AND CLUB IMPRESARIO PAR EXCELLENCE. SOCIETY'S HOSTESS WITH THE

MOSTEST AMAZING FRIENDS AND A SUPERBOOK IN HER NAME AND LIKENESS. THIS

WE HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN BEFORE. AND CAN NOT FIND ANOTHER FOR LOVE, MONEY OR UNUSUALLY EXCELLENT SEARCH SKILLS.

Black. As the night. No dustjacket. Just black tie, white name clothbound brilliant book.

This is Régine. The quick history is that she was was born in Etterbeek, Belgium, to Polish Jewish parents and spent much of her early life in hiding from the Nazis in occupied wartime France. After the war, Régine became a torch singer and by 1953 was a nightclub manager in Paris. She is attributed with the invention of the modern-day discothèque, by virtue of creating a new dynamic atmosphere at the Whisky à Gogo, with the ubiquitous jukebox replaced by disc jockeys utilising linked turntables.

Just love some Wikipedia.

And that's what you get for inventing disco! An all time world class photograph! The book is worth it for this pic alone.

Nineteen seventy-seven dancing with Yves Montand - at what may have been a 1962 theme night judging by the styling. Looks like all our favourite Godard and Truffaut films at once. Love Yves Montand breakin' out of that jacket too.

Star Trek next generation! So many, many, many things to admire about this photograph: girl in gold pants' face, tricolore popped balloons, middle girls moccasins awesome I'M GONNA WIN T-shirt - obviously!

Sophie Marceau in everything we could ever want from the eighties; the white bolero jacket and black brooch combo. Beside her the beautiful Margaux Hemingway.

The face. The brooch. Françoise Sagan. Some of the photographs are by Dominique Issermann. We are guessing this is one of them.

Kathleen Turner meet Sophie Marceau. There are pictures in this book of so many amazing people Margaux Hemingway, Alain Delon, Françoise Sagan, Steve Rubin, Catherine Oxenberg, Diandra and Michael Douglas, Pele!, Anouk Aimée, Sammy Davis Junior, Farrah Fawcett, Roger Moore, Ryan O'Neal, Lauren Hutton (in AMAZE 80s mode), George Hamilton, Stevie Wonder, Shirley McLaine, Marc Bohan, Serge Gainsbourg and yes! Charles Aznavour!!!

Once, when working on a new club space, Régine felt she was missing the social scene in St Tropez and sent postcards to 8,000 friends!

Avec Gainsbourg, of course.

The book is so wonderful. Privately published and given to friends and clientele of Régine's clubs in Paris, New York, Monte Carlo and beyond. The book even has its own adverts - in the tradition of the Ku Ibiza books and the gold book of Les Bains. The text is by Agathe Godard. Françoise Sagan has words to say. It is one of the true great IDEA superbooks and right here, right now, we have one copy.
