THIS WEEK'S SUPER RARITY. THE PICTURE NEWSPAPER BY JAMIE HAWKESWORTH, ADAM MURRAY AND ROBERT PARKINSON. 500 COPIES WERE GIVEN AWAY FREE IN PRESTON OR SOLD FOR £3. YOU'D BE VERY FORTUNATE TO FIND (OR DISCOVER YOU ALREADY OWN) ONE OF THESE NOW. THE ORIGINAL PRESTON BUS STATION.

The photograph and the text. This cover is an all time classic already. Sixteen years old now (the newspaper not the girl above). And in that time, Jamie Hawkesworth became one of the top fashion photographers in the world.

The newspaper was published with a text by Aidan Turner-Bishop, who, as the Chair of the North West group of the 20th Century Society, was well-qualified to declare the Bus Station itself as a cultural landmark. We would have those vending machines Grade II listed tomorrow!

More joys of the early Jamie Hawkesworth observational photography style.

And epically everyday portraiture.

Jamie, Adam and Robert took an empty shop unit at the station when they made this newspaper and distributed it there for free. We have never been to Preston but anything white-tiled is cool with us and worthy of a visit. You can see the vast 1969 frontage on Google Maps. Open that view now and you'll see empty shop units circa 2015... some things never change.

Sadly, it is not free anymore. It is not £3, the price at which it was sold in 2010, either. It is suitably expensive now. It is an historic document and this, very scarce indeed, example is beautifully preserved.
You will need it for your Recent History Museum and you can buy it now on the green button below.
