WHO DID IT BETTER? STEVEN MEISEL OR STEVEN MEISEL? A WORLD OF VERSACE LOOKBOOKS STARTING IN THE YEAR 2000 WITH THE ALMOST IRONIC / INSTANTLY ICONIC FASHION CAMPAIGN THAT WAS HUNG ON THE WALL IN HOXTON AND SOLD AS ART.

Fall Winter 2000. Georgina Grenville and Amber Valletta in Versace. This is the book of the White Cube exhibition. The photographs were taken, the campaign ran and then the pictures went up on the walls of the Hoxton Square gallery in a show titled, and shared by this book, Four Days In LA

The campaign was styled by Lori Goldstein with make up by Pat McGrath and shot in the Los Angeles home of interior designer Timothy Corrigan.

This picture (our favourite from the book) sold for $40,000 at Christies in Seoul. The book has hit new heights of value too - but hundreds not thousands. There are so few Meisel books and there is only one book of a fashion campaign as art. This is it! Buy Four Days In LA on the hot pink link below.

ONE YEAR ON AND MEISEL WENT BIGGER AND BOLDER AND SHOT THE VERSACE CAMPAIGN AT THE PLAYBOY MANSION. NO BOOK OR ART GALLERY SHOW FOR THIS ONE JUST ONE GLORIOUS SUPERLOOKBOOK.

The most inauspicious auspicious covers that slide off and fold out to an enormous one metre plus poster.

Voila! Fashion photo history for less than $40K. Note the maid making an appearance. In many of the photographs the staff are featured (not the actual Playboy Mansion staff, we are sure) and they do not get to wear Versace.

The gardener gets his own page in this giant spread.

That dog probably never worked for Bruce Weber again after daylighting in these Meisel pictures.

The kids' casting is superb. As above, they all look terrifying! It is a magnificent look book. Not in the least bit overshadowed by the preceding campaign. More than a match made in Hollywood heaven.

You can buy it on the deep purple button below. And if you want to see even more Versace (by Meisel, Weber, Avedon and Penn) this is the link for you
