WHEN YOU'RE SAD YOU ONLY SEE SAD THINGS. IN 2003, TRACEY EMIN MADE A PHOTOBOOK. IT IS VERY SMALL, VERY RARE AND, THIS COPY IS, VERY MUCH SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. DETAILS OF DEPRESSION IS THE TITLE. IT MAY DETAIL DEPRESSION BUT IT IS ANYTHING BUT. IT WARMS THE HEART IN WINTER. 

Measures less than January rain in millimetres. 104 x 150mm to be exact. And there are only 20 pages. 2003 it was published. Tracey gave this one her middle name. There are many reasons why it is rare. There were only 500 copies. It is 24 years old. It is numbered to the back. Tracey has signed it. 

Note the misspell of you're. That's not uncommon for Tracey or for any visual artists. What is uncommon is that this is a photography book...

A sad car. Only it's not. None of the photographs are depressing. On the contrary, they are full of life. It would take a team of movie production designers a week to construct garage and car and even a street like that. Here it presents itself. 

And that's just straight up beautiful. 

Utility of futility. 

There is a celebrated book by Richard Wentworth of found sculpture (we have it here). Tracey Emin is pretty good at it too. She is aiming for banal but she is finding meaning in the shapes she shoots. 

Ok, so that one shouldn't be, but is, heartbreakingly sad. 

It is a beautiful, brilliant little book. Exceptionally rare and with this copy being signed it is, from what we can see, out there on its own. One copy and one love.
