Steven Meisel 317 & Counting

TWO THOUSAND AND NINE. THE FIRST AND LAST TIME

WE SAW THIS BOOK! EVERY STEVEN MEISEL VOGUE

ITALIA COVER FROM THE FIRST IN 1988 TO THE LATEST IN 2009 (WHEN THIS BOOK

WAS PUBLISHED). THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN

& COUNTING IS THE TITLE. ABSOLUTELY ALMOST BEYOND BELIEF IS THE ONLY WAY TO QUANTIFY THE INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT.

Inversely proportional. How off the scale great Meisel is / how few books he has put his name to... Madonna Sex,
4 Days In LA... and this. Its publication and sale was limited to one location (Hyères in France for the exhibition of the covers) and one web page (long since sold out). Small wonder that this would disappear. And ever less so that it would disappear here :)

btw. We only have one copy so do by all means scroll fast to the button at the bottom and buy it. You can read these captions at your leisure later!

The first Meisel Italian Vogue cover was also the first issue edited by Franca Sozzani. They would make 317 and more consecutive covers together. This first issue is an all time amazine of course. We have a copy
for sale here

Madonna Meisel Marilyn. 1991. M and M at the height of their super powers.

2008. A Black Issue. Four covers. All shot by Meisel.

Of course Meisel didn't just shoot 317 plus covers. Each cover was a lead fashion story. And this issue with sixty pages of Hollywood style by Edward Enninful has to be the greatest postmodern fashion moment ever. Unless...

...it is is this one! Makeover Madness is just staggering. Not just the idea of it. That's cool enough but the painstaking detailed execution. It's like Meisel made a major movie every month! Speaking of which...

The Fashion Marathon issue. Inspired by the dance endurance contest from They Shoot Horses Don't They? Every month, these issues would just knock you out. No one else ever came close.

A favourite. July 1999. Possibly the most imitated Meisel shoot ever. But to see the original. Wow!

So the book is for sale... one copy. Published ten years ago and, as far as we remember, the only copy we have sold since. It's on the button below.
