These photographs were taken at various City Day and Miner’s Day celebrations in Pokrovsk between 2015 and 2018, during the ongoing war in Donbas but before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Today Pokrovsk is at the frontline of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Once home to around 60,000 people, the town is now a battered shell where few civilians remain.
