The new IDEA book is ELIZABETH by Angela Hill. Elizabeth White was first street cast by Angela in 1997 and photographed for VERY, the magazine she co-founded. That VERY cover is also the cover of this new book. Angela's covers were recognised at the time for their simplicity and honesty; Elizabeth's was one of the most successful and engaging. A portrait with an enigmatic quality that bears being looked at many, many times.

In 2022, she released SYLVIA, the first in what is now a three-part series of single-subject books that document childhood and adolescence over a period of years. Since publishing SYLVIA, EDITH and THE X-GIRL SHOW, Angela has reasserted herself as a fashion photographer of a distinct quality, shooting campaigns and editorial for Miu Miu, The Gentlewoman and Fantastic Man, Marfa Journal and many more in her own natural, semi-documentary style. In parallel to her work as a photographer, Angela is the A of IDEA — co-founder of the company.

The ELIZABETH book has been made up from scans of magazine tear sheets, vintage prints and damaged negatives. The aesthetic may suit the imagery but this was not a deliberate stylistic choice: much of Angela's 90s archive has been lost in house moves or destroyed in floods. This is what there is and now, thanks to the book, what there always will be.
