Sexy Jackets

IT'S A SUPERMOOK. THE JAPANESE 1977 VISUAL RECORD SEXY JACKETS IS THE GREAT REFERENCE TO EROTIC ALBUM SLEEVES OF THE SEVENTIES. IT PUTS THE
X INTO SEXY. PRINTS THINGS THAT ARE NO LONGER PRINTABLE AND HAS A
WHOLE CHAPTER ON ROXY MUSIC. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM A BOOK?

By definition: mook = book / magazine. And now we are in the mook for love.

Starting with the super sexy Ohio Players. They have a chapter for themselves and two entries in this newsletter. This vertical gatefold sleeve looks as good as it sounds and it sounds something like this

And of course Betty Davis. The original Nasty Gal. There is no video footage of Davis performing but she was INCREDIBLE. You can tell from the record. This was not a woman being pushed into being sexy by the music industry. She was scaring the hell out of everybody.

Subtlety can be sexy. Although the phallic presence of the Empire State Building, where you might otherwise expect to find her utility cupboard, is quite blatant. This is Elkie Brooks and while it is tempting to link to Pearl's A Singer, the album is actually Two Days Away and includes her white (hot) soul version of Do Right Woman, Do Right Man

Unsubtlety can be silly. But in the days before the Internet, spying a sleeve like this was about the only way to learn the strange ways of the world. Sounds smooth here.

Good grief. As Gucci would say #OfCourseAHorse. One more track from the OG OP on this link

Minnie Riperton "Stay In Love" A Romantic Fantasy Set To Music. The story of the sleeve is presented in Sexy Jackets. The track Young Willing and Able can be heard here. Kinda lively.

Instasafe before its time. The perfectly posed and composed Musical Massage by Leon Ware. Relax into the sound

As far as sexy jackets go... that single breasted wide lapel number is very fine on Robert Palmer. From this Pressure Drop album go for Back In My Arms (big chorus).

There are 114 pages and upwards of 500 sexy record sleeves. A choice few of them, quite unsurprisingly, banned at the time. It's the complete completist's wet dream book. We have FIVE copies of Sexy Jackets. All that we could find in the world.
