Vogue Italia Hollywood

HOW DID WE EVER NEVER WRITE ABOUT THIS? STEVEN MEISEL'S HOLLYWOOD

ISSUE OF VOGUE ITALIA. IT'S INSTA-FAMOUS ALREADY.

BUT REALLY NO AMOUNT OF HYPE CAN EVER GET CLOSE

TO DESCRIBING HOW PAGE

BY PAGE PERFECT IT IS. THE GREAT ACHIEVEMENT OF POSTMODERN FASHION.

AWE (AND THEN SOME).

Absolutely everything about it. Is masterful. The January 2005 issue of Vogue Italia. Deep into Steven Meisel's impossibly long run of cover stories. Same year as the joint equal legendary amazine -
Makeover Madness (we have that one too). And between them the defining visual reference to the 2000s.

How low can you go?

Shot by Steven Meisel, styled by Edward Enninful, makeup by Pat McGrath, hair by Jimmy Paul. But.. what we don't know is... who wrote WACK ATTACK? We are guessing it was either Vogue Italia art director, Luca Stoppini or creative director, Jason Duzansky. And if it was either of them, they are legend too :)

The full-on Avril Lavigne scene. It is almost too obvious to tell you how obviously great this story is. Suffice to say - in 2005, this look would have been the considered the worst of bad taste and so, you know, it was kinda genuinely SHOCKING! that it ran the cover and SIXTY! pages of the world's highest-height-of-fashion magazine. And that, even now on Instagram, most of the comments betray the fact that most of the young kids don't know it was ironic.

Left hand page for the
Clueless meets Almost Famous absolute masterpiece of a collage.

Papped. Amber Valletta at the end of the longest lens in fashion photography.

ULTIMATE what? ULTIMATE art direction. ULTIMATE ideas.

Bump dresses. Meisel blurred the lines of fiction and documentary with a pastiche so close to what it parodied all you can do is marvel at the ingenuity. And accept - one and for all - that baby pink UGGs is so a good look.

The Hollywood celebrity issue has been as good as unfindable for years now. And we have been waiting our time for this newsletter. Now that time has come. We have... THREE!

Three copies all in excellent condition and here for you on the button below.
